PLAYA BAGDAD

Playa Bagdad is just a short, 20-minute drive from Matamoros on the modern 4-lane highway. Located 16 miles to the east, the pristine beach is ideal for fishing and sports activities. Ocean-front restaurants, public restroom facilities and straw-thatched palapas await beach-goers. During Holy Week, visitors, mainly from the neighboring state of Nuevo Leon, enjoy parade floats, sports tournaments and concerts.
Summer is the perfect time for barbecuing and relaxing with your family. No wonder Playa Bagdad is Matamoros’ favorite spot! If seafood is more your style, oceanfront restaurants offer exquisite freshly-made delicacies. We recommend you start off with a delicious shrimp or crab cocktail, followed by an entrée of perfectly grilled or roasted fish.
Your day will be a fun-filled adventure with banana rides, surfing or jet skis. All-terrain-vehicles, 4WD trucks or buggies perform amazing stunts in the gorgeous sand dunes. Enjoy a stroll down the beach, where unlike other places you can collect whole seashells. Sport fishing is another favorite crowd-pleaser. You can try your hand at the various species or participate in one of the fishing tournaments.

Ecotourism (Laguna Madre)

Enjoy a day of fishing or bird-watching in the natural wonders of the islands of the Laguna Madre. On its northern tip lies Puerto El Mezquital, home to a small, fishing community. The small-craft wharf is dotted with fishing boats from locals casting their nets to the rich sea-life. You may also taste delicious home-cooked meals prepared by the island-dwellers, followed by an exciting boat ride.
